If you live off campus, you need to factor in how you'll get to and from RISD. To save time and money, have a solid plan for commuting.

Here are some transportation options to help you make the most of your commute:

  • Public transportation: The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus system is an affordable way to get around, and RISD students have free access to RIPTA when traveling to and from campus.
  • Walking and biking routes: If you live relatively close to campus, walking or biking is an eco-friendly way to commute. You can find several bike racks on RISD campus and Providence offers bike rental services like Spin or Bird. If you ride a bike you own, invest in a sturdy lock to keep your bike secure on campus.
  • Automobile parking: If you drive, research street parking regulations in your neighborhood and near campus. Providence utilizes both metered and permit-based parking, so be aware of restrictions to avoid tickets. Keep in mind that RISD does not offer parking to students.
  • RISD and Brown shuttle services: RISD and neighboring Brown University offer shuttle services that may be convenient for your daily commute. If available, these shuttles can cut down on commuting costs and time, especially during harsh weather.
