RISD Rides

As of September 3, 2026, RISD Rides runs from 5:30 pm–2:30 am daily. The last pickup of the night will be at 2:15 am.

Also beginning in September, RISD Rides will operate within a one-mile radius, with exceptions for hospitals.

RISD Rides operates on-demand within a 1-mile radius from 20 Washington Place in Providence, RI. 

1. Download the TripShot smartphone app (available for Android and  iOS).*
2. Open the app from your phone.
3. On the Setup screen, type in “RISD” and click “Next”.
4. Select “Log in with RISD SSO” and log in with your RISD credentials. 
5. Select “On Demand” in the menu at the bottom of the screen.
6. Select the location where you would like to be dropped off. You can select one of the prelisted locations, choose a point on the map, or search for an address or business name in the search bar. 
7. Confirm your pickup address. The app will automatically find your current location, but you can also choose a point on the map, or search for an address or business name. 
8. Once you confirm your pickup and dropoff location, select “Request Ride”. You'll see an estimated time of arrival and a note that your ride is scheduled. 

*If you do not have a smartphone, you can use the desktop version of TripShot, or contact Public Safety at 401-427-6915 to request a ride. You can also call Public Safety if you need a ride outside the above hours of operation.

1. In the TripShot app, click on your current On Demand Ride. You can find this toward the bottom of your screen, or under “My Trips” in the left-side menu. 
2. Click on the ride you need to cancel.
3. Select “Cancel”.
4. Provide your reason for cancelling the ride, and select “Cancel Ride”. 

You may then book a new ride or take alternate transportation options to your desired location. 

For easy recognition, RISD Rides operates distinctly marked vans. Drivers wear uniforms as well as a photo badge, which they must present to passengers upon request. RISD Rides drivers are professionally trained and licensed, and undergo regular driving and criminal history records checks.

When the RISD Rides vehicle arrives, you must show your RISD ID card in order to enter. All passengers—including the guests of RISD community members—are expected to treat drivers respectfully.

RISD Rides reserves the right to deny transport to any passenger if the driver deems their behavior to be dangerous to the operation of the vehicle, the driver, or other passengers.

Passengers must wear seatbelts, in accordance with Rhode Island law. With the exception of service animals, pets are not allowed in RISD Rides vehicles. Smoking and the transportation of alcohol in RISD Rides vehicles are strictly prohibited.
