Intercultural Community Spaces
The spaces we oversee provide places for you to be in community with your peers across RISD's campus. Learn more about them below, including how to reserve our main location on campus—the Ewing Multicultural Center.
Ewing Multicultural Center
Our home on campus is the Ewing Multicultural Center, located at 41 Waterman Street. It holds a main lounge area that is open to all on campus, and may be reserved by student groups or for other events that align with our mission.
Ewing policies
Reserving the lounge
Please use 25 Live to submit your reservation request. You should reserve the lounge at least two weeks in advance.
Once you submit your request, we will review it and either confirm or deny your reservation. If we approve your request, you will receive 25 Live confirmation and we will add it to the Ewing availability calendar. Please note that inclusion on our calendar serves as final confirmation of your event reservation.
If you need to cancel your reservation, please do so via 25 Live or email us at ise@risd.edu.
Please note that you can only reserve the Ewing lounge for four hours at a time, so that we can keep the space available for all who want to use it. If you need to reserve the lounge for more than four hours, email us with your reservation information so that we can assess how to accommodate your request.
Visiting a staff member
If you wish to meet with someone on our team, feel free to drop in, or email in advance to set up an appointment.
Building access
Ewing operates by card access only, at all times. Please be sure to bring your RISD ID card with you to gain access to the building. Your card will work on the building doors from 6 am to 11 pm.
Note: Public Safety will do a general check-in of the space after business hours.
Facilities requests
We do not have event staff available or on-call to assist with reservations. It is the responsibility of those booking the space to clean up after themselves. This includes wiping down surfaces and resetting the furniture to the original setup. Any decorations used in the space should remain at a minimum, and must not damage any walls, paint, or leave permanent marks of any kind.
Clean up
It is your responsibility to keep the space clean. Please be sure to request additional trash cans in your event set-up request to facilities if you anticipate your event producing larger than normal amounts of trash.
Please do not leave any food in the Ewing refrigerator or kitchen. Any food left in the refrigerator and/or kitchen will be disposed of.
Noise
Please be mindful of your noise level.
Furniture
Please put the Ewing furniture back in the position it was when you entered the building. If you have brought additional furniture (or other items), they must be removed at the end of your event. You are responsible for all Facilities Work Order requests.
Audio Visual
There is a large TV that can be connected to laptops to watch movies, play music, display slideshows, or show presentations. You must provide your own laptop. Please be kind to the equipment and treat it with care.
