Annual Student Events
In addition to supporting the events and efforts by our student organizations, we also offer programming across campus throughout the academic year. Ranging from beloved RISD traditions to unique pop-up events, we help you find opportunities to relax and celebrate with your friends.

Orientation
For incoming students, Orientation is your welcome to RISD and all it has to offer. Whether you’re a first-year or transfer student, this series of events occurring at the beginning of the academic year will help you transition to college life through connection, celebration, and community building.

Welcome Week
The academic year begins with celebration and our annual Welcome Week activities. All students are welcome, and first-year students are especially encouraged, to attend events including Block Party where you can learn more about RISD’s 50+ student organizations, Night at the Museum where you can enjoy snacks and explore the museum exclusively with other students, and First Day Donuts where you are greeted with a smile and a donut on your way to class.

Artist Ball
Happening each October, Artist Ball is our annual costume dance party and a showcase of RISD students’ exceptional creativity. Each year students vote on a theme, create skillfully made costumes and walk the runway as part of a festive costume competition. This event is filled with dancing, great food, prizes, and a spin camera booth. With more than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students attending each year, this is a RISD tradition you won’t want to miss.

Haunted Haus
Carr House turns spooky in this annual event hosted each October alongside the Campus Activities Board (CAB). Bring your friends for a fright-filled night complete with candy on your way out.

Care Week
Taking place during finals, Care Week is a collaborative initiative in Student Life. It starts with Late Night Breakfast in the Met, followed by events where you can unwind through calming activities, massages, and the beloved therapy animals.

Student Art Sale
Each April the annual Student Art Sale showcases art and designs by current RISD students. The event is open to RISD community members and the public who can purchase work to enjoy for years to come

Senior Week
Celebrating the accomplishments of our graduating seniors, this week-long event takes place each year between the end of the academic year and commencement. Events include a trip to Tillinghast Farm for a beach day with food trucks, a Fancy Dance with food and a DJ in the Upper Quad, and a yearbook signing event where students can pick up the annual yearbook created by the Design Guild.
