Housing Accommodations
Students requesting housing accommodations should register with Disability Support Services and submit documentation. For housing accommodations, upload a one-page letter, on official letterhead, from a licensed off-campus provider that states your
- Diagnosis,
- symptoms and limitations,
- Prognosis,
- plans for care,
- And clearly states your provider’s credentials.
Documentation should describe:
- how the disabling condition(s) currently impacts your living environment or prevents you from accessing certain features of your living environment,
- the severity, frequency and pervasiveness of the condition,
- the chronic, cyclical or episodic nature of the disability,
- and known or suspected environmental triggers.
We review each disability accommodation request, determine the appropriate reasonable accommodation, and notify Residence Life of the approved accommodation. We will also notify each student of the outcome of their request and any approved accommodation. Residence Life will then create student housing assignments based on the accommodation approved by DSS.
In evaluating medical accommodation requests, we take into account whether we receive the request:
- Prior to the housing accommodation deadline
- As soon as possible after identifying the need for accommodation(s).
- Before or after you receive your housing assignment or a change in diagnosis, etc.
Housing accommodations are based on disability-related needs. Requests for particular housing assignments which are based on student preference, rather than need, such as a specific type of living environment, specific building location, specific roommates, or a quiet place to study will not be honored.
