Finding a Job
We offer resources and support for students seeking on-campus jobs. For those eligible for Federal Work-Study, we also help find off-campus positions at nonprofit agencies throughout the greater Providence area.
Employment opportunities
Student employment at RISD is diverse and inclusive, offering roles that cater to a wide range of interests and skills. From administrative roles that enhance organizational skills, to creative projects such as assisting in staging a gallery show or learning how to operate state-of-the-art equipment, there are opportunities for everyone to explore.

Find internships, jobs and artist opportunities on ArtWorks, an online platform for RISD students and alumni. On-campus job opportunities are listed for both hourly positions and graduate assistantships. If you have Federal Work-Study, you can find off-campus opportunities here as well. Follow our guide for help navigating ArtWorks.
Outside of the resources above, students have also found positions by reaching out directly to supervisors and departments to ask about available positions. If a department you are interested in working for is not hiring at the time, it's a great way to get your name out there for when they are hiring.
Job searching for dual degree students
If you are enrolled in a dual degree program with RISD and another institution, there are additional eligibility factors to account for in your student employment job search. Find information for various dual degree job seekers below.
Dual degree Federal Work-Study (FWS) eligibility
Your Federal Work-Study (FWS) eligibility is tied to the institution that awarded your financial aid. If you have been awarded FWS funds, you can only work FWS positions at the awarding institution or an approved off-campus employer such as a nonprofit that your school has a partnership with (see nonprofit work requirements).
Domestic Brown|RISD Dual Degree students receive financial aid through Brown, which means they are not eligible for FWS positions at RISD. However, you can still apply for department-funded student jobs. If you are seeking an off-campus FWS job listed in ArtWorks, you must coordinate with Student Employment at Brown.
Master of Arts in Design Engineering (MADE) students
If you are enrolled in the MADE program, you are considered a Brown student for employment purposes. This means you cannot be hired into RISD student employment jobs, including on-campus roles.
For international MADE students, RISD jobs are considered off-campus and not permitted without Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorization through Brown.
International dual degree students
International students enrolled in a dual degree program are not eligible to work at RISD. Brown maintains your SEVIS record, so working at RISD would be considered unauthorized off-campus employment under federal immigration rules.
However, you can seek approval for an exception from Brown’s Office of Global Engagement if the work is Curricular Practical Training (CPT).
Nonprofit work requirement
If you are seeking a student employment role at a nonprofit, you should first confirm your eligibility with Brown University.
