Filing a Report
A Community Incident Report (CIR) is the best way to share an instance of a potential code violation. Learn more about the form and what to include in a report here.
About CIRs
A Community Incident Report (CIR) is an official document submitted to us that shares a potential violation of the Code of Student Conduct. The information provided is used to begin an investigation by our office. You should submit a CIR any time you have firsthand knowledge of a potential violation of the code.
How to submit a report
A CIR should include:
- an accurate written narrative of the incident(s) you observed or experienced.
- Other documents that can help to clarify what happened, such as: screenshots of text messages, photographs, audio recordings or other digital files.
While they are helpful to have, it is best to submit a CIR even if you do not have supporting documents. If you have any questions regarding filing an incident report, please contact us.
FAQs
Can I file a CIR anonymously?
While you can submit the form anonymously, doing so may significantly impact RISD’s ability to address the incident and even prevent us from resolving the matter altogether.
What happens after I file a CIR?
After you file a complaint, our office reviews it to determine the best course of action.
Our assessment may result in a preliminary review, in which case we might ask you for additional information, contact potential witnesses and gather other important information before deciding how to proceed. If case details warrant it, a hearing administrator may contact you to solicit your participation in the hearing process.
If the allegations you make in your complaint do not constitute a violation of the Code of Student Conduct, the case may result in non-disciplinary follow-up (mediation, educational conference, informal warning, etc.).
