Physical Space Accommodations
Physical accommodations
When an academic location (e.g. a classroom) poses barriers to access, we work with various offices on campus to remove them. Examples of physical space accommodations include providing accessible furniture in classrooms, relocating a student’s mailbox location, etc.
Classroom relocations
In the event that a student with a disability cannot physically access a space a transport themselves to it during the standard passing period in time for the start of class, we may work with the Registrar’s Office and any faculty members involved to facilitate reasonable accommodations. These may include rescheduling the class in another location, or making temporary or permanent modifications to the space in order to create access.
Please note that there are circumstances under which we cannot accommodate a classroom relocation or modification. For example, some courses require the use of machinery and equipment housed in specific studio spaces.
Receiving physical space accommodations
To receive a physical space accommodation, you must let us know your access needs with reasonable notice (a minimum of two weeks before the start of the semester) to allow time for relocation or rescheduling.
Temporary injuries
If you are temporarily injured and think you may need a physical space accommodation, please see our overview of temporary injury accommodations.
